Madhavan Menon, the Executive Chairman of Thomas Cook India, addressed the persistent issue of high airfares affecting both leisure and business travelers in India. In an interview with PTI, he highlighted the ongoing challenge of airline capacity despite a rise in scheduled flights.
Menon expressed hope for a gradual improvement in demand-supply dynamics with the introduction of new aircraft into the network, albeit over the long term.
Discussing the company’s expansion strategies, Menon outlined plans to bolster their physical presence through a mix of owned and franchise outlets while also accelerating their digital footprint across the country.
He emphasized the focus on viable source markets and outlined the retail expansion strategy across various urban and regional areas. Leveraging existing franchise outlets, the company aims to enhance its foreign exchange business by setting up counters within the same premises to swiftly scale up distribution.
Regarding challenges faced in India, Menon noted improvements in visa processes despite heightened concerns over appointment slots and turnaround times during peak seasons.
In addressing challenges, Menon underscored the significance of simplified visa regimes such as eVisas and Visa on Arrival, along with recent announcements of free-visa entry for Indians, which he believes will stimulate visitations by Indian consumers.
