Karimnagar: Authorities have apprehended a couple suspected of the fatal demise of their mentally troubled daughter in this district, the police revealed on Monday.

As per Rajanna Sircilla Superintendent of Police, Akhil Mahajan, Chepyala Narsaiah (49) and his wife Yellavva (43) from Nerella allegedly took the life of their daughter Priyanka (24) and misrepresented it as a natural passing.

The young woman had been grappling with a mental illness for an extended period. Despite efforts by her parents, including medical treatment and arranging her marriage, her condition persisted. She leaves behind a 13-month-old son.

Despite additional treatment and spiritual interventions, her mental health deteriorated, leading her parents to a distressing decision. Allegedly, on May 14, while she slept, they purportedly ended her life by strangulation.

Following her death, the couple informed their son-in-law and proceeded with her funeral the next day. However, suspicions arose among villagers regarding the circumstances of her demise, prompting them to alert the authorities.

Upon investigation, the parents admitted to their involvement in the incident. They have been placed in judicial custody, with further inquiries ongoing, stated Mahajan.
