In a recent interview with PTI Videos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exuded confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, foreseeing the party emerging as the primary force in southern India. He reiterated his firm belief in the NDA alliance crossing the 400-seat mark in the Lok Sabha elections, the results of which are due on June 4.
Modi emphasized that the BJP’s strategy remains consistent across the nation, encapsulated in the slogan “Phir ek baar modi sarkar. Aur chaar June 400 paar.” Dismissing the notion of BJP’s weakness in the southern states, he pointed out the party’s significant presence in the region during the 2019 elections and projected a further increase in its dominance this time.
Asserting that the BJP will become the single largest party in Southern India with a wider margin than before, Modi highlighted the growing mind-share and predicted substantial gains in seat and vote share across the region. He particularly emphasized the significance of the southern states, which collectively contribute 131 Lok Sabha seats.
Modi also noted a surge in support for the BJP in eastern India, causing unease among sections of the media and political circles in cities like Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, and Delhi. He confidently stated that the blessings of the people would lead to a record-breaking mandate for the NDA, with significant gains expected from all parts of the country.
Addressing misconceptions about the BJP’s identity, Modi stressed its national character since its inception, both geographically and ideologically. He reiterated the party’s commitment to prioritizing the nation’s interests in decision-making, irrespective of regional considerations.
Regarding the ongoing election, Modi expressed satisfaction with the NDA’s performance so far, indicating a strong position for the alliance. He contrasted this with the struggles faced by the Congress and its INDI alliance in opening their accounts in some states.
Modi attributed the narrative of BJP’s weakness in the south to a concerted campaign aimed at painting the party as urban-centric, male-centric, and regionally biased. He denounced such myths as part of a larger ecosystem intent on misleading and destabilizing the nation.
In conclusion, Modi reaffirmed his optimism about the NDA’s electoral prospects, underlining the determination of the people to exceed expectations and deliver a resounding mandate.
