New Delhi: Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been in the spotlight recently due to his latest creation, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bhansali discussed his enduring friendship with Salman Khan, who has starred in several of his films.
Bhansali shared, “The only person I’m still friendly with is Salman Khan. Even though Inshallah didn’t happen, he supports me. He’ll call to check on me, ask if I need anything, and even point out my mistakes. I love his sense of humor. These calls come every three to five months because he cares about me, not my films. He always says, ‘You’ve done so many films with me, it doesn’t matter. Are you okay?’ And that is what truly matters.”
For those unaware, Bhansali and Khan were working on Inshallah, but the project was shelved due to creative differences.
Reflecting on the project, Bhansali said, “We may have had disagreements at work, and it didn’t work out. But a month later, we talked. That’s true friendship. I’m fortunate to have a friend like Salman who, even if we speak once every six months, picks up right where we left off.”
Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have collaborated on films like Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Saawariya.
Following the success of Heeramandi, Bhansali is now preparing for his next film, Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. The film is set to release in December 2025.
