Yash Dayal Opens Up About Criticism Following RCB Selection for 5 Crore

In a gripping showdown, the uncapped Indian pacer Yash Dayal emerged as the hero for Royal Challengers Bangalore, propelling the franchise to a thrilling victory over Chennai Super Kings and securing a coveted spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. RCB’s skipper, Faf du Plessis, graciously dedicated his Player of the Match accolade to Dayal, commending the left-arm pacer for his exceptional performance in the crucial final over. Despite the triumph, Dayal reflected on the challenges he encountered since joining the Bengaluru franchise during last year’s auction.

“When I first joined RCB, I encountered a wave of skepticism and doubts regarding my place in the team. My focus remained unwavering; I wasn’t out to silence critics, but rather to prove my own capabilities,” Dayal shared candidly.

“From day one, RCB made it clear that they viewed me as a pivotal player. Their unwavering support and trust have been instrumental in my success,” he added.

Reflecting on the match, Dayal disclosed that he wasn’t initially slated to bowl the final over, but a strategic discussion between Du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik prompted a change in plans.

Acknowledging his nerves, particularly in light of a challenging encounter against Rinku Singh last year, Dayal admitted, “Following the ordeal against KKR in 2023, there was a palpable sense of apprehension. Yet, I drew strength from my past successes and focused solely on executing each delivery with precision. My sole objective was to deliver a quality ball, regardless of the scoreboard or outcome.”

Regarding the last-minute alteration in bowling plans, Dayal remarked, “Initially slated for the penultimate over, a spontaneous decision between DK [Dinesh Karthik] bhaiya and Faf led to Lockie [Ferguson] taking the 19th over, with me closing out the innings. I was adaptable and ready for any role assigned to me.”
